Our team served as the design engineering firm for this front end study. LA Carbon's expected process was to use waste oil as a feedstock and develop a desirable carbon product. Equipment for the project included an offsite tank farm with transfer pumps and a process building that housed four trains of skid units. Piping from the tank farm to the process building was routed through a structural pipe rack.
We were tasked with developing a preliminary process package for this project. Deliverables included a control document package that included a Process Narrative, PFD's, P&IDs and a Heat & Material Balance. A 3D model was created to aid in fine tuning the plant layout. The desired result of the FEL effort was to produce a total installed cost estimate within 30% accuracy.
